Mountains Beyond Mountains, a train of thought.
I’ve had the Arcade Fire’s Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) on repeat for DAYS. It’s stunning. It reminds me of Mountains Beyond Mountains one of my favorite non-fiction books by journalist Tracy Kidder about Dr. Paul Farmer who works in Haiti (and elsewhere) fighting Malaria. The title comes from a Haitian proverb: “Beyond mountains there are mountains.” ...

Pickin Up Good Vibrations: Good Connection Really... →
adambozarth: An interesting, short article about brains actually being on the same wavelength, so to speak. People in a real conversation, making a connection, actually experience some identical brain activities. It has some pretty interesting implications to improv, especially in terms of warming up before a show. Almost scientific proof as to why you need to try to listen and engage in order...

If you are all enjoying Mad Men’s recent plot, you may like Malcolm Gladwell’s rip roaring article about the advertising agency Sterling Cooper Draper & Pryce is based on. I read this in the book What the Dog Saw a while ago, and realized in geeky ecstasy that Mad Men was modeling itself after this story as last season ended. Amazing.

download some demorific musics by Mercy Bell →
So, y’all can download my various demos, scratch MP3s, live recordings, rough mixes. Know when you’re making pancakes and the first one comes out weird but still tastes kind of like a pancake if you put Nutella on it? Well this is the music equivalent of the sacrificial pancake.

– Robert Rodriguez, Rebel Without a Crew The second part of that, though, is he went out and did it. Like whoa. He subjected himself to science experiments to make money to make his movie. No excuses. I read this book when I was 15 and wanted to make movies (someday!), but it rings true for a...

“Life is good. It brought us here.”
– - parting words late in the Edinburgh night from our new friend, Daniel, who hails from Sweden. Our Scotland excursion has been simply splendid. This country is beautiful and feels like home, and we met some wonderful people. I’m already looking forward to the next time I come here. (via jmmbb)

ohhh New England.
Last night I was awoken by a bat in my attic bedroom at my family’s olde New England home. I moved to the sofa in the living room, don’t want rabies. (Dear St. Anthony, please find me money so I can go back to Brooklyn, kthnxbye, love, Mercy)

Lately I’ve had some good conversations and revelations with some strong women late at night on phones and in cars and on floors. At one point Jax said, in regards to who’d win in a fight, me or Maryanna: “I feel like Mercy could take you on, but I feel like Maryanna would fight dirty”. That’s what I’m talking about. I hate prissy things and if you’re...
