The right wingers never ultimately win, or else we’d still have slaves and I wouldn’t be voting. I don’t know if you wanna call it democracy, it’s progress, evolution, time. Time marches on. It just marches on. Whenever there are strides made for a group, say it’s the first black athlete on a team or the first woman working on this company, it galvanizes all this negative energy, until this dissipates, and then we move forward. Unfortunately we happen to be in this time of great strife that will eventually move forward, eventually. In the same way that my nephews and nieces will think it’s absurd that gay people couldn’t get married, the same way that you and I find it odd that African Americans couldn’t walk in the front door, it seems inconceivable. This will all seem inconceivable. It always moves forward. Janeane Garofalo to Marc Maron
